Rev. Camille Gautreau
Rev. Camille Gautreau, 94, of Residence Moncton, formerly of Shediac Bridge, passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. Born July 4, 1923 in Chatham, NB, he was the son of the late Edmond and Regina (Babineau) Gautreau.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1947 at St. Thomas University and theological studies at the Quebec Seminary. Ordained to the priesthood at St. Patrick’s Church, South Nelson, NB, in 1951. He was also a former professor having taught at St. Thomas University; curate in Dalhousie, Atholville, Bathurst; chaplain with the Canadian Armed Forces for over 20 years serving in Petawawa, Winnipeg, Churchill, London ON, Germany, and Gagetown, NB; then aided in various parishes in diocese of Moncton, especially St. Bernard’s.
He is survived by one sister, Yvette Hanley of Boston, MA; a brother, Dr. Paul Gautreau (Benoite) of Shediac Bridge; several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by three sisters: Carmella Carens, Jacqueline Mann, Dorca Cowan; a brother, Judge Maurice Gautreau.
The family will receive condolences Monday, October 23, from 7-9 pm at the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900); Tuesday, October 24, from 9 am at St. Bernard’s R.C. Church, 43 Botsford Street, Moncton, from where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Miramichi.
The Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch No.6, will hold a service of remembrance at the funeral centre Monday evening at 7 pm.
In his memory, a contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
