Thomas Andrew Matthews

Thomas "Tom" Andrew Matthews, 54, of Haute Aboujagane NB passed away suddenly at the QE11 Hospital Halifax NS on Thursday, November 1, 2018. Born in Halifax on February 19, 1964, he was the son of the late Harold and Jennie (Dunham) Matthews.

Tom was very proud of his 31-year service as a member of the Royal Canadian Armed Forces, having served four years as a gunner for the Royal Canadian Artillery School in Gagetown, NB, re-mustering to Postal Clerk in Shearwater and Halifax, NS, Gagetown, NB and Winnipeg, MB. He was also deployed to Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan and Syria. He fulfilled his dream of an outcan posting to Italy. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 162 Calais and had a passion for cooking, four wheeling and fishing.

Survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Monique (Cormier); proud father to his son, Thomas (Nicole); four siblings: Robin, Lucy Crawley (Shawn Helmkay), Tracy Hale (Tommy) and Andy (Nathalie); adoring grandfather to five grandchildren: Lexxis, Lyrica, Channing, Londyn and Thatcher, as well as a niece, Melodie. Mother to Thomas, Cathy Johnston.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Lois (twin) and Irene; one brother, Earl.

Friends and family are invited at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre for a memorial visitation on Wednesday, November 7th from 7 to 9 pm with a last post service at 7 pm.

In memory of Tom, a contribution to the PTSD Association of Canada would be appreciated.

Cremation and funeral arrangements are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (532-3297).
