Sr Marie-Alfred ndsc
Sister Marie-Alfred (Sr. Ernestine Poirier), ndsc, of Maison-mère des Religieuses Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Coeur, Moncton, passed away following a lengthy life on Monday November 19, 2018 at the convent where she resided. She was 100 years old and in her 80th year of her religious life. Born April 28, 1918 in Shediac, she was the daughter of the late Ferdinand and Anne (Léger) Poirier and the adoptive daughter of the late Alfred and Pélagie (sister of her biological mother) Roy.
Besides her religious family, she is survived by two nephews of the Poirier family as well as several nephews and nieces of the Roy family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two biological sisters: Sr Céline, ndsc, and Sr Alma, sister of Providence; one biological brother, Georges; three adoptive sisters: Ernestine Dupuis, Marie-Gaudélie Thibodeau, and Élizabeth LeBlanc; and two adoptive brothers: Napoléon Roy and Edgar Roy.
Sister Marie-Alfred will be resting at the Notre-Dame-d’Acadie Pavilion of the Maison-mère, 125 King Street, Moncton (Godfrey Lane entrance) on Wednesday from 2 to 8:30 pm and Thursday from 9 am until the funeral mass. Solemn Vespers will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday November 22 in the Maison-mère chapel at 10 am. Interment will be in Memramcook. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
