Anita Metcalfe, of Shediac, passed away on Saturday May 2, 2020 at The Moncton Hospital. She was 83 years and 11 months old. Her daughter Charline and son in-law René accompanied her during her final moments. Born in Shediac, she was the daughter of the late Aurel and Evelyn (LeBlanc) O’Brien.
Prior to her retirement, she loved teaching at the Baie Comeau High School and was a supply teacher at the Grande-Digue school.
She is survived by her daughter, Charline Metcalfe (René Ducasse) of Sayabec, QC, two grandsons: Philippe (Florence Ehre) and Gabriel (Kate Fitchett); one great-granddaughter, Annabelle; a brother-in-law Phillip Metcalfe (Claudette) of Haute-Aboujagane; three sisters-in-law: Betty Doody (late Al), and Sylvia Maltby (late Jim) both of Hamilton, ON, Barbara Lloyd (late Richard) of Guelph, ON; as well as her nieces and nephews. Also, a best friend Suzanne Simmonds. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roland (2010); one brother, Francis (Laure) O’Brien and one sister-in-law Cecile Daley.
A special thank you to Dr. Mansfield of the palliative care unit and her team of angels, nurses, and nurses’ aides, for their compassion and care during my mother’s last days on Earth.
In accordance to her wishes, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. In memory of Anita, a contribution to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the Vestiaire St-Joseph would be appreciated.
