Joe Albert

Joe Albert

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Joe Albert, 88, of Cormier-Village, on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2020 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont UHC. Born in Sainte-Marie-de-Kent, he was the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Bastarache) Albert.

His late wife Léa was the love of his life and he took great pride in providing for his family.  He never missed family gatherings and kitchen parties. He had a special spot in his heart for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved playing fiddle to them since they were babies. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, gardening, cutting wood, picking strawberries, and loved eating pumpkin pie and lobster. He was a hardworking and dedicated man all his life and retired after a 45-year career as a trucker. Many will agree that he will be remembered as an avid fiddle player having played since the age of 15 and right up until a few weeks ago. He and his siblings formed a family band called the Albert Brothers Band. They used to play at the French Victory Clubs and performed at shows and dances in Massachusetts in the 60s and 70s. This popular band was booked to play every weekend for over 10 years. He received many trophies and awards from fiddling competitions. He was featured in the book "Fiddling in New Brunswick, The History and its People" and recorded an album dedicated to his wife after she passed. He used his talent to raise money for charities and fundraisers, and always volunteered to help his family and his community.

He will be missed by his son, Ricky of Cormier-Village; three daughters: Dorine (Daniel Maillet) of Shediac, Shirley (Kevin Boucher) of Shediac and Jane of Grand-Barachois and her children and grandchildren: Jessica (JP) of Shediac and their children: Emma & Alex; Joshua (Gabrielle) of Cocagne; Jacentha of Shediac, and Chris of Fredericton. He is also survived by two sisters: Odila Newcomb (Frank) and Cécile Goguen (late Antoine) all of Shediac Bridge; five brothers: Émile (Florine), Zoël, Léo (Jeannette), Félix (Zita), and Éric (Shirley), all from Sainte-Marie-de-Kent; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his lovely wife, Léa Albert (Vienneau) (2010); two brothers: late Henri (Alma of Moncton) and late Louis-George (Joanne of Brampton, Ontario).

A private mass will be held at the Sacré-Coeur RC Church, Haute-Aboujagane.  The funeral video will be available by end of day Friday, June 12, 2020 on this obituary at
