Stella Léger, 97, formerly of Taylor St. and Residence Guillaume Pellerin in Moncton, passed away on Saturday February 20, 2021 at the Villa du Repos in Moncton. Born in Shediac, she was the second youngest of the 12 children of the late Ephreme and Amanda (LeBlanc) LeBlanc.
Mom graduated from Robinson College (now Oulton) and worked as a clerk in the payroll department at the CNR until she married. Mom was a devout Christian during all her life. She was involved in Les Dames Chrétiennes de la Paroisse Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Mom was a member of the Foyer Inc. where she worked part time as an attendant for women and also participated in the activities at the Foyer. Later in life, Mom and Dad enjoyed a few years with their camper travelling the Maritimes. She later joined the Club d’Âge d’Or NDG where she enjoyed darts, cards (200), little bingo, bowling and dances. Mom was quiet but enjoyed laughter and if the TV was not on, she was playing her cassettes or CD’s. Our home was always open to aunts, uncles and cousins who visited from afar and near. Her homemade bread and cooking were loved by all. Mom had the nicest blue eyes and she was told this many times, which would make her blush. She enjoyed watching hockey games and her favorite baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
She will be greatly missed by four daughters: Jeannine LeBlanc (Paul), Murielle Arsenault (Dave), Cécile Léger (Reg), all of Moncton, and Claudette (Keith Williams) of Cocagne; four sons: Roland (late Stella 2015), Maurice (late Nancy 2018), Roger and Normand, all of Moncton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Léandre (1993); one daughter, Bernice Cormier (1996); one son, Henri (2008); eight sisters: Clara, Régina, Évangéline, Juliette, Anita, Alice, Bernadette and Thérèse; three brothers: Edmour, Oswald and Albert.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude towards the staff of the Villa du Repos for their exceptional care provided to our mother.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Wednesday February 24, 2021 from 2 to 5 pm only.
