It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Hervé Landry, 84, of Moncton on Wednesday May 27, 2020 at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in College Bridge, he was the son of the late Abbey and Eveline (Léger) Landry.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Carmel née Gaudet; five daughters: Theresa Landry (Gary McDonald ) and Michelle Lister, of Dieppe, Gisèle Landry and Denise Thébeau (Norm), of Moncton, and Lise Landry (Tim Trenholm) of Fredericton; two stepsons: Bertin Belliveau (Donita) of Memramcook and Marc Belliveau (Carole) of Dieppe; five grandchildren: Justin, Véronique, Dominique, Karina, and Gabrielle; two step-grandchildren: Sebastien and Christian; his sisters and brother: Sr Bertha Landry, ndsc, Aline Cormier (Damien), Edith Saulnier (late Frank), Gérard Landry (Eva), Bernadette Dupuis (Gérard), and Rachel Belliveau (Phil); as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jacqueline née LeBlanc (2004); one grandson, Mathieu (2011); and two brothers, George and Laurie.
After earning his Bachelor of Science at the University of Detroit and his Doctor of Optometry at the Illinois College of Optometry, Hervé practiced for over 40 years in the Greater Moncton area. He was named President of the Canadian Association of Optometrists in 1980, and was the first Francophone and, at the time, the youngest person to serve in that capacity. In 1999, he was the first optometrist in New Brunswick to be presented with the President’s Award, the highest honour accorded by that Association.
The family wishes to thank the nursing personnel of the extra mural program for the excellent care they provided to Hervé in the last few months.
Due to the current public health crisis, a private funeral will be held; however, a celebration of life will take place at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (858-1900).
