Ron Carrier (son of Doris and Ken) died on December 8th at the age of 83. Ron was born in 1939 in Miramichi NB, and his family later relocated to Grand Falls. He attended teachers college and decided after 1 year as a teacher that he had chosen the wrong profession. He started working for the bank of Montreal in 1961. This soon lead to a transfer to Shediac. When he moved to Shediac, he lived across the street from his future wife Lily. On their first date he told her he didn’t ever want to get married and on their second date he said he wanted to marry her. He said the best decision he ever made was getting married to Lily. They had 3 kids who were heavily involved in various sports and activities. As a result, Ron became an avid volunteer in minor hockey and figure skating. He tried to never miss a game, competition or meet. He was always very proud of his kids and even more proud of his 6 grandkids. He would talk about them all to anyone who would listen. Although to some he did not seem very social he enjoyed chatting with people and telling stories about his youth and other times in his life.
Ron worked at Paturels for almost 37 years. After he retired, he bought a convenience store which he had talked about doing for many years. Many people would come in daily to have a chat with him and in his grumpy way he would greet them and hope to see them again the next day.
He was a generous, thoughtful, and loving man. He will be missed by his wife Lilianne and his kids and their families - Kenneth, Charlene, Kathryn & Andrew (Moncton), Chris, Coralie, Maya & Brynn (Nanaimo) and Dawn, Frank, Will & Emma (Toronto). He is survived by his older brother Fred (St. Stephen).
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa providence for caring for Ron for the past 2 years.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Donations can be made to the Vestiaire St-Joseph (www.vestiairestjoseph.com). Arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Shediac (532-3297).
