Aldérice Richard passed away at the age of 82, on Monday September 11, 2023 at the Protem Memory Care in Moncton. Born in Saint-Antoine, he was the son of the late Émile and late Irène (Léger) Richard.

As a young man, Al raced snowmobiles winning Maritime and Eastern Championships and competed in the World Championships. He later raced stock cars #38 at McEwen Speedway, winning several track championships. Al worked as a metallurgist technician in the science department at the U de M University. His work was his passion. Al was very innovative, assisting scientists with groundbreaking experiments. The pinnacle of his achievements were two experiments launched on two space shuttle missions. Al later retired in 1996 and embarked on a voyage of camping and discovery with his beloved wife.

In 1957, he met the love of his life, Géraldine Després. They married in 1960 and were happily married for 63 years. From that union were born five children: Charles (Lucie Leger), Norm (Donna Cormier), Monette (Vance Morgan), late Janelle (passed away at birth), and Marc (Anik Laflamme).

He is also survived by six grandchildren: Christien (Christina), Joël (Krista), Veronique, Jérémie (Adeana), Gabriel (Maxime), and Raphaël; five great-grandchildren: Céleste, Julianne, Leo, Kye, and Hugo; six sisters: Lucille, Fernande, Dorine, Simonne, Murielle, and Gemma; three brothers: Paul-Émile, Donald, and Ulysse, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and daughter, he was predeceased by his brother, Guy.

The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 396 Main Street, Shediac (506-532-3297) on Friday October 20 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St-Joseph R.C. Church, 415 Main Street, Shediac on Saturday October 21st at 11 am. Interment will be in the St-Joseph cemetery in Shediac.
