Dr. Alan Richard Fraser, 80, of Moncton, passed away at his residence on Saturday December 7, 2024. Born in Arvida, QC, he was the son of the late William and Irène Fraser (Richard).

He is survived by his six beloved cousins: Charlotte LeBlanc (Bernard), Lise Richard (Bernard), Pierrette Richard (Jacquot), Margot Richard (Guy), Jolène LeBlanc (Antoine), and Charline McNeil (Mike).

In the early 1960’s, Alan moved to Montreal to pursue his studies at McGill University and he ultimately earned a PhD in chemistry from Sir George Williams University (later renamed Concordia). He then did a few years of postdoctoral work with a Nobel laureate in New York City.

Alan relocated to New Brunswick in the late 1970’s to be near his Acadian family and he taught biochemistry at the Université de Moncton for nearly 30 years before retiring in 2007. An esteemed professor, he always pushed his students to reach their full potential and was awarded a prize for excellence in teaching in 2004.

While undoubtedly a man of science, Alan was also very passionate about the arts, particularly film and classical music. He was an avid traveler, a wine connoisseur, and a lively conversationalist who loved nothing more than spending time with his cherished family members and friends.

By request, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. Interment will be at Saint-Joseph cemetery in Shediac. In memory of Alan, a contribution to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are in the professional care of Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, Moncton (506-858-1900).
